This customer testimonial is based on the experience of a single customer on KrausMaffei injection moulding machines from the CX series. The actual results achieved may depend on the type of machine used and its maintenance, operating and environmental conditions and the lubricant previously used.

Initial situation

A plastics processing company uses injection moulding machines from KrausMaffei's CX series for the production of headlight lenses for cars. The modular drive concept of the CX series is designed for high machine performance and low energy consumption. However, this concept also results in a system-related reduced oil temperature of around 30 °C. In order to start the system, the hydraulic oil (HLP 46) previously in use had to be heated up over a longer period of time. In order to avoid these heating-up times, a more suitable hydraulic oil was sought.

Recommendation

Our lubricant expert has recommended the use of Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32, a high-performance hydraulic oil of viscosity class ISO VG 32. The optimum viscosity-temperature behaviour and the chemical structure of Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32 allow the viscosity class to be lowered from ISO VG 46 to ISO VG 32. Compliance with the pump manufacturer's requirements has of course been tested and confirmed. Lowering the viscosity class favours start-up behaviour in the low-temperature range without the need for additional energy to preheat the oil and also promises a reduction in power loss at the hydraulic pumps. Thanks to the high ageing stability and very good keep-clean behaviour of Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32, system cleanliness can also be guaranteed in the long term.

Field trial & evaluation

A field trial was carried out on a KrausMaffei CX injection moulding machine under comparable conditions with the previous product and Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32. Since the changeover to Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32, the machine can be started up immediately and production can begin without additional heating phases. By changing the system software (see manual), the machine can now also be started up below 30°C without any problems. This significantly reduces the system's energy requirements. More parts can be produced in the same production time, significantly increasing the productivity of the manufacturing process.

The improved system cleanliness guarantees long component and filter service lives. In addition, the threefold increase in oil service life contributes to lower oil consumption and a reduction in waste, which in turn reduces maintenance and disposal costs. Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 32 thus increases productivity throughout the entire manufacturing process and supports the company's sustainability goals.
