Customer testimonial metal working

This testimonial is based on the experience of a single customer. The actual results achieved may depend on the type of machine used and its maintenance, operating and ambient conditions and the lubricant previously used.

Initial situation

In a metalworking company, the heat-treatable steels 42CrMo4 and 34CrNiMo6 are machined on a Star sliding headstock lathe with 150 bar high-pressure cooling. A cooling lubricant based on mineral oil is used. The company is looking for ways to extend tool life and reduce set-up times.

Recommendation

Our lubricant expert has recommended the use of the GTL high-performance cutting oil Mabanol Cut Lub 16 G for machining high-alloy, difficult-to-cut materials in order to improve cutting performance and thus reduce set-up times.

Field trial

The parameters using Mabanol Cut Lub 16 G are recorded in a field test under comparable conditions and compared with the data of the competitor product. By using Mabanol Cut Lub 16 G, an increase in tool life from 80 m (3/4 shift) to 110 m (> 1 shift) is achieved. This corresponds to an increase in tool life of 37.5%. This not only reduces tool costs, but also significantly reduces the set-up times/downtimes per shift caused by tool changes. These savings contribute to increased productivity throughout the entire manufacturing process.

Furthermore, the use of Mabanol Cut Lub 16 G reduces oil misting and, thanks to its excellent rinsing behaviour, significantly reduces the residual moisture of the workpieces, resulting in a reduction in demand of up to 15%.
