MINIMISING WASTE AND EXTENDING SERVICE LIFE WITH MABANOL CUT 265 BF

The water-miscible coolant Mabanol Cut 265 BF scores with excellent lubricating properties for a wide range of materials and has the potential to extend emulsion service life without the need for any adjusting agents. In our practical example at a metalworking company, switching to the high-performance coolant has already doubled the emulsion service life and optimised the production process by minimising the number of products used. Customer testimonial metalworking

This testimonial is based on the experience of a single customer. The actual results achieved may depend on the type of machine used and its maintenance, operating and ambient conditions and the lubricant previously used.

Initial situation

A metalworking company turns, mills, drills and taps plastics, aluminium, steels and stainless steels. Up to now, two water-miscible coolants based on phenoxyethanol or phenoxyethanol-propanol have been used. Bacterial and fungal growth results in short service lives of only six months and strong odours, so that the addition of adjusting agents such as bactericides and fungicides is necessary. The emulsions are also adversely affected by lime soaps in the machine rooms and precipitating oil.

Ways are being sought to prevent the precipitation of lime soaps, to avoid adjusting agents and to increase machine cleanliness. Furthermore, the aim is to minimise the product range to using only one type of universal, long-term stable coolant for machining the entire material mix.

Recommendation

Our lubricant expert has recommended the use of Mabanol Cut 265 BF based on the latest DCHA emulsifier technology. The resistance of this technology to bacterial growth promises longer emulsion service life without additional adjusting agents. Furthermore, Mabanol Cut 265 BF is hard water stable in use up to 150° dH and has been proven not to lead to the precipitation of lime soaps or mineral oil. The low mineral oil content helps to reduce emulsion drag-out and improves machine cleanliness. Mabanol Cut 265 BF has excellent lubricating properties for machining aluminium and stainless steels and is also suitable for plastics.

Field trial

The parameters using Mabanol Cut 265 BF are recorded in a field trial under comparable conditions and compared with the data of the competitor product. To date, the emulsion service life has already been more than doubled while at the same time dispensing with any adjusting agents. This not only saves resources and reduces material costs, but also increases health protection. In the further course of the field test, a service life of at least 2 years is aimed for.

The improved rinsing behaviour leads to significantly cleaner machines. When using Mabanol Cut 265 BF, neither precipitation of lime soaps nor deposits in the machine rooms can be observed. All machining processes can be realised with a single coolant. The surface finishes are still very good and there is no discolouration on aluminium or swelling when machining plastics. This means that minimising the use of the universal high-performance coolant Mabanol Cut 265 BF helps to optimise the entire production process.
