Initial situation

In a metalworking company, turning, milling, drilling, thread cutting and slot milling of cast iron, steels, high-alloy steels, aluminium and non-ferrous metals is carried out on various machining centres (20 individually filled machines, 1 central system). Until now, a coolant based on phenoxyethanol has been used. Biocides containing FAD are added to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi. Lime soaps occur in the machine rooms, which impair the emulsion and thus the machining process. The emulsion has a service life of one year. The company searches for a long-term stable coolant that is suitable for machining all materials and prevents the precipitation of lime soaps, does not require any additional adjusting agents and increases machine cleanliness.

The resistance of this technology to bacterial growth promises longer emulsion service life without additional adjusting agents. Furthermore, Mabanol Cut 264 BF is hard water stable in use up to 100° dH, so that a permanently good rinsing behaviour is offered and lime soap formation is demonstrably prevented. Thanks to the high lubrication performance of Mabanol Cut 264 BF of 55% in total, even wear-intensive processes such as slot milling can be optimised.

Field trial

The parameters using Mabanol Cut 264 BF are recorded in a field test under comparable conditions and compared with the data of the competitor product. By using Mabanol Cut 264 BF, it was possible to significantly increase the emulsion service life while at the same time dispensing with any adjusting agents. After completion of the field test after 1.5 years on 3 individually filled machines, these are still very clean and show excellent rinsing behaviour. When using Mabanol Cut 264 BF, neither precipitation of lime soaps nor deposits in the machine rooms can be observed. This not only conserves resources and reduces material costs, but also increases employee health protection by eliminating the use of harmful adjusting agents.

Furthermore, Mabanol Cut 264 BF is highly resistant to foaming. At a water hardness of 5°dH and a high-pressure cooling of 60 bar, no foam is produced.

The high performance of Mabanol Cut 264 BF has proven itself across all tools and materials, ensuring the necessary wear protection throughout the entire process. Due to the excellent results on the 3 test machines, the central system was subsequently also converted to Mabanol Cut 264 BF.
