REDUCING TOP-UP VOLUME WITH MABANOL CUT 264 BF

The water-miscible coolant Mabanol Cut 264 BF not only has excellent flushing behaviour, but also has the potential to extend emulsion service life without the need for any adjusting agents. In our practical example at a metalworking company, the changeover to the high-performance coolant enabled the top-up volume to be reduced by 75% and the emulsion service life to be increased. Customer testimonial metalworking

This testimonial is based on the experience of a single customer. The actual results achieved may depend on the type of machine used and its maintenance, operating and ambient conditions and the lubricant previously used.

Initial situation

In a metalworking company, turning, milling, drilling and thread cutting of various aluminium alloys (5000/6000/7000 group) and high-alloy steels is carried out. Until now, a water-miscible coolant based on phenoxyethanol has been used. The top-up volume is 2 - 2.5%. Due to bacterial growth, various adjusting agents such as bactericides and defoamers must be used. Despite the water softening system, the emulsion is also impaired by limescale deposits and lime soaps as well as high quantities of floating tramp oil after only a short service life of 2 months.

Ways are being sought to prevent the precipitation of lime soaps, to avoid adjusting agents and to increase machine cleanliness.

Recommendation

Our lubricant expert has recommended the use of Mabanol Cut 264 BF based on the latest DCHA emulsifier technology. The resistance of this technology to bacterial growth promises longer emulsion service life without additional adjusting agents. Mabanol Cut 264 BF also prevents discolouration of the aluminium workpieces and ensures the longest possible tool life. Furthermore, Mabanol Cut 264 BF is hard water stable in use up to 60° dH and has been proven not to lead to the precipitation of lime soaps or mineral oil.

Field trial

During a field trial, parameters are recorded for using Mabanol Cut 264 BF under comparable conditions and are compared with the data of the competitor product. By using Mabanol Cut 264 BF, significantly longer emulsion service lives are achieved without the need for any adjusting agents.

Furthermore, when using Mabanol Cut 264 BF, neither precipitation of lime soaps nor lime deposits in the machine rooms can be observed. The improved rinsing behaviour leads to significantly cleaner machines and drier chips, and the top-up volume could be reduced by 75% to 0.5%.
