REDUCE TOP-UP VOLUME WITH MABANOL CUT 249 BF

The water-miscible coolant Mabanol Cut 249 BF not only has excellent flushing behaviour, but also has the potential to extend emulsion service life without the need for any additional substances. In our practical example at a metalworking company, changing to the high-performance coolant enabled the company to reduce the top-up volume by more than 75% and increase the emulsion service life. Customer testimonial metalworking

This testimonial is based on the experience of a single customer. The actual results achieved may depend on the type of machine used and its maintenance, operating and ambient conditions and the lubricant previously used.

Initial situation

In a metalworking company, turning, milling, drilling and thread cutting of engineering plastics and unalloyed steels is carried out on various machining centres. Previously, a water-miscible coolant based on phenoxyethanol and an increased mineral oil content of 40% was used. The top-up volume is 4 - 4.5%. Due to bacterial growth, various adjusting agents such as bactericides and defoamers must be used. Despite the water softening system, the emulsion is also affected by limescale deposits and lime soaps after only a short service life of 2 months. Ways are being sought to prevent the precipitation of lime soaps, to avoid adjusting agents and to increase machine cleanliness.

Recommendation

Our lubricant expert has recommended the use of Mabanol Cut 249 BF based on the latest DCHA emulsifier technology. The resistance of this technology to bacterial growth promises longer emulsion service life without additional adjusting agents. Furthermore, Mabanol Cut 249 BF is hard water stable up to 60° dH and has been proven not to lead to the precipitation of lime soaps or mineral oil. The low mineral oil content of 10% helps to reduce emulsion drag-out and increases machine cleanliness.

Field trial

A field trial is used to record the parameters when using Mabanol Cut 249 BF under comparable conditions and compare them with the data of the competitor product. By using Mabanol Cut 249 BF, significantly longer emulsion service lives are achieved without the need for any adjusting agents. The almost transparent emulsion facilitates machine set-up. Furthermore, when using Mabanol Cut 249 BF, neither precipitation of lime soaps nor lime deposits can be observed in the machine rooms. The improved rinsing behaviour leads to significantly cleaner machines and drier chips and the top-up volume could be reduced by more than 75% to 0.5 - 1%.
